Aku.automation has installed a machine vision system from Cognex in the Knorr packaging plant Heilbronn, Germany, which will check the seals on food products sachets such as Fix spaghetti bolognese, Fix goulash and Fix pot roast.

The vision system deployed by aku.automation comprises an In-Sight Micro vision system, In-Sight Explorer vision software with PatMax pattern recognition software and a Cognex VisionView 700 visualization panel.

Knorr had given the task to the staff of looking for defects at the end of the production line.Though this worked well and customers had not been submitting claims for product defects, Knorr needed Cognex's smart vision system to ensure 100% defect identification.

The In-Sight vision system inspects the material overlaps/defective welds and detects immediately so that the product is removed from the production line.

The VisionView 700 visualization panel provides password-protected user controls for setting the parameters of the system without the need for a PC.
